AirBNB “Icons” PROJECTS

ROLE: Executive Producer @ AOA

If Child-Ethan knew that Adult-Ethan would build X-Mansions and Beetlejuice Houses he’d be a happy kid :-)

As a consultant with AOA, I Executive Produced a large portion of the X-Men “X-Mansion” and “Beetlejuice House” experiences for Airbnb, which helped launch Airbnb’s “Icons” platform.

This work was a collaboration between the talented teams at Verb (AirBnb’s Experiential AOR), AOA, (founded by Ex-Disney Imagineers, and pioneers of physical storytelling), and various other partners. In this case, AOA was Verb’s sub-contractor.

BEETLEJUICE HOUSE | ‘24

  • The Beetlejuice project was complex. Whereas with the X-Mansion we had modified an existing home, with Beetlejuice we built the structure from the ground up. Coinciding with the release of Beetlejuice 2, the creative brief was to pay homage to the world of the first movie, while entering the world of the 2nd movie. Throughout the experience, guests transitioned from the real-world to the Neitherworld, Beetlejuice’s domain.

X-Men “X-Mansion” | ‘24

  • Executive Producing the X-Mansion was a dream project. Airbnb rented a mansion in Westchester NY, which we transformed to feel like you were stepping into a comic. The launch coincided with Netflix’s series premier of “X-Men 97,” which was developed as an homage to the original cartoon. Complete with interactive media and SFX, the experience came to life as guests entered Xavier’s Institute of Higher Learning.
